Historique :	Le poinçon peut correspondre aux années 1778 ou 1755 ou 1705 ; l'inscription se réfère sans doute à la date de 1787 ; à cette date, le 7 février eut lieu à Champniers le mariage du fils de Jean-Baptiste Dupuy, Sr du Breuil, lieutenant particulier de la sénéchaussée de Civray, avec la petite-fille du curé de Champniers, Jean Olivier Maignon ; il est probable que ce calice (qui pouvait alors déjà être ancien) fut donné au curé par le père de l'époux en cadeau à l'occasion de ce mariage.
