Historique :	Il s'agit sans doute de la pièce la plus déconcertante de l'ensemble des 38 éléments d'architecture romans de l'église Notre-Dame de Genouillé. Sur ce claveau est représenté un personnage masculin nu. Dans une attitude de trois-quarts, il semble engagé dans l'action de la marche. le dynamisme qui émane de cette oeuvre est rare. Rare aussi le traitement anatomique réservé aux parties génitales de l'homme. La nudité n'est pas exceptionnelle dans la sculpture romane, et on trouve de nombreux exemples de représentations sexuelles, mais le plus souvent d'une manière très stylisée. Dans le cas présent, la nudité est figurée de façon naturaliste et cela constitue une exception dans la sculpture poitevine. Il faut rapprocher cet homme nu de celui figuré sur le portail de Genouillé, sur un chapiteau d'angle. La nudité est récurrente sur cet édifice, peut-être une évocation de la luxure.
