Description :	Réalisé en 2 essences de bois, l'une claire et l'autre foncée, ce coffre est bardé de ferronneries et de poignées en fer forgé, ainsi que d'une serrure à moraillon.

Historique :	D'après un inventaire de 1795 conservé aux archives nationales, il a existé un André Dauvergne, menuisier de son état, qui habitait à Paris au 110 rue Antoine. Il est vraisemblable que c'est le même menuisier qui est l'auteur de ce coffre. Selon l'avis formulé par M. Yves Carlier, conservateur général au château de Versailles et spécialiste de ce type de meuble, ce coffre est bien ancien, mais il est probable que l'inscription (poinçonnée en creux et non cloutée) ait été gravée après sa réalisation, probablement au cours du 19e siècle.
